Another round of leaks posted by an anonymous Reddit user caused an uproar in the Super Smash Bros. community. The leaks come two weeks after Nintendo confirmed that Joker from Persona 5, who’d been leaked only a week before that, will be Ultimate’s first DLC challenger.
The characters allegedly joining the roster as DLC are all fan-favorite Nintendo icons. Let’s take a look at who Smash fans can watch out for in the coming months:
Wii Balance Board
Joining its compatriot Wii Fit Trainer is another representative from the Wii Fit series. The Wii Balance board is getting an upgrade from its appearance in Smash Bros for Wii U, where it was only an assist trophy. Many Smash fans are calling the character, “a logical choice” as a new addition. Its final Smash is already rumored to include pestering the other fighters and making fun of them for not working out, as seen in the above image.
Wii Balance Board isn’t the only character leveling up from Smash for Wii U. The crowd-favorite Bombchu steps up from an item to a full-fledged character in Ultimate. Fans of both the Smash Bros series and Legend of Zelda series have been asking for Bombchu in Smash since the Brawl days. In Nintendo’s very own “Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot,” Bombchu ranked as the 166th choice as a new addition behind The Kid from I Wanna be the Guy.
Hero King Marth
You probably didn’t think they could do it, but Nintendo again surprises fans with another legendary Fire Emblem character. Included in this leak are additional details that Hero King Marth is NOT an echo fighter; while he may share the exact same moveset as Marth and Lucina as well as the same voice effects of Marth, an entirely new taunt differentiates Hero King Marth from the rest.
Nintendo knows how much its fans love the classic Super Mario RPG, which is why the latest Smash Ultimate wouldn’t be complete without the addition of everyones’ favorite SMRPG character: Mallow. The leak also included a speculation that with the addition of Mallow, no other SMRPG characters would need to be added in the future. Many smashers on the /r/SmashBros subreddit concluded that Mallow is the best suited for a fighting game over other SMRPG characters. Congrats SMRPG fans, you’ve got your wish!
Nintendo is expected to confirm each of these characters in January’s Nintendo Direct.
